And I feel the time has come to give back, if only a little, everything these islands have gifted me.

What is the Machanga Community?

I am not a big company.
I don't have a Corporate Social Responsibility department.
I am a freelancer.
With a small brand.
With very clear convictions.
And an immense love for the Canary Islands.

That is why the Machanga Community was born.
A project where it is not me who decides who to help.
We decide together.

Each quarter, the community chooses which Canary Island association, foundation, or project will receive the voluntary contributions made by our customers.

Because I believe that when many people make a small gesture, together they can change a great story.

How does it work?

1️⃣ You propose

For five days, we collect proposals from entities directly on our website. To guarantee a clean, fair process and avoid abuses by automated systems or bots, prior user registration in our Shopify store is mandatory. Once your account is created (one account, one proposal), you will have access to the form to nominate your candidate. Associations, foundations, or social projects in the Canary Islands must meet three essential requirements:

• They must be non-profit entities with a clear social impact in the Canary Islands.
• They must be legally able to receive a donation.
• They must agree to appear and be photographed at the public handover if selected.

⏳ Interface Phase (Verification and Control)

After the proposal collection period ends, we provisionally select the three causes most suggested by the community. This phase usually lasts between 1 and 2 days (or more, depending on the speed of the entities' responses), and we use it to strictly verify that the candidates meet the 3 mandatory requirements.

• We take your proposals very seriously: We do all this to safeguard and ensure that the majority's decision is respected, preventing the project from stalling.
• Transparency note: If a finalist entity does not meet the requirements, does not have a clear impact in the Canary Islands, does not respond, or refuses to collaborate, we will automatically move to the 4th candidate in the proposal ranking, and so on until we have the 3 validated finalists.
• Deadline: We will not exceed 2 business days of waiting for a response from any of the candidates. If they do not answer within that time, we will proceed as described in the transparency note above.

2️⃣ You decide

Once the interface phase is closed and the candidates validated, the final voting phase is activated for two days exclusively within our Shopify store. To ensure the process is totally democratic and avoid cheating, the system requires the same mandatory prior user registration: one account, one vote. The most voted cause will be the official beneficiary for the quarter.

• Transparency note: We will contact the winning entity again. In the exceptional case that they do not respond within the 2 business days following the close of the final phase or refuse the collaboration, the funds will automatically be allocated to the second most voted option, and so on until the definitive winner is found.

3️⃣ Together we make help possible

The fundraising takes place over the following three months and arrives in two ways:

• 🧡 Voluntary contributions at the end of each purchase on the web: Upon finishing your order, you will find the option to add a voluntary contribution using the "Tips" function of our payment platform. If you choose to do so, you will be doing your part for the cause chosen that quarter by the Machanga Community. 100% of that digital contribution will be recorded transparently and transferred by bank to the entity.
• 🧡 The Machanga Piggy Bank present at our markets: At our physical stalls, you will find our solidarity Machanga piggy bank with a padlock and security seal. At the start of each market day, a colleague from a neighboring stall will sign, place, and inspect our security seal. On our social media, you can see the video of us placing the zip tie and another video upon arriving home showing the piggy bank with the zip tie and the unalterable signature, how we cut it, and how we count the cash live and without video cuts.
• 📊 Real-time counter: On the same voting webpage, and throughout the entire fundraising phase, there will be a tracker with the total accumulated up to that moment. This counter will automatically add the amounts from web tips, and we will manually enter the cash contributions after each market. So you can see at any time how much we have achieved together during the 3 months of the campaign.

Leche Machanga does not obtain any financial benefit from these contributions. We act exclusively as temporary custodians of the money.

4️⃣ Total transparency

When the quarter ends, we publish on our website and social media:

• ✔️ The total amount raised (both digital and cash).
• ✔️ The receipts of bank deposits and monthly transfers to the NGO.
• ✔️ The official handover and the photograph with the beneficiary entity.

Because trust is not asked for.
It is demonstrated.

Our commitment

If we raise €9 in a quarter, we will deliver €9.
If we raise €900, we will deliver €900.
No exceptions.

Because we know that big changes do not always start with large amounts.
Sometimes they start with a small gesture.

We want you to trust us.
Not because the texts say so.
But because you will always be able to verify it.

Why do they appear as "tips" on the web?

It is the technical name used by our Shopify payment system and it cannot be changed. At Leche Machanga Creations, these contributions are completely voluntary and 100% go to the cause chosen by the Machanga Community. Legally, they are processed as support revenue managed by the freelance owner for their subsequent full and accumulated donation at the end of the quarter, so they never form part of our business profits. Due to this intermediation, these contributions do not constitute a direct donation from the customer for personal income tax deduction purposes. For more details, consult our Terms of Service.
